Discovering the undiscovered, MICE bouncing back in Taipei!
The MICE community in Taipei is preparing themselves to start serving domestic events after months of reflection and revising their operating formulas as needed to add “health safety“ as a major factor to the planning and delivery process.
Actually as with every crisis, the MICE industry discovered several opportunities, the biggest prospect probably being the need to enhance combining virtual and hybrid components in both conventions and exhibitions.
With Taiwan’s economy largely driven by industrial manufacturing, and especially exports of electronics, the availability of “low touch – high tech“ accommodation and conference solutions are widely available and innovative efforts to combine the country’s tremendous technical expertise with the warm Taiwanese hospitality are supported by all.
While facing uncertainty, Taiwan’s MICE stakeholders demonstrated having the same pro-active mindset at the Taiwan Government’s approach to quickly react and effectively stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country, resulting in Taiwan’s proud ranking in the top 10 of the global C19 recovery index, with counties like Australia, South Korea and New Zealand.
With great respect for the commonsense rules of keeping distance, washing hands and using face masks in place in Taiwan historically, venues have established new floor plans and cleaning protocols, hotels have enhanced the housekeeping efforts through deep cleaning in rooms and restaurants, while all public and private transportation suppliers are fully cooperating with the health agencies and national police.
The biggest change in Taipei’s MICE service suppliers’ policies and procedures will be making sure they cooperate exclusively with hotels, venues and transport companies who are committed to the well-being of their guests and are adhering to the latest health and safety regulations.
All event spaces at the conference hotel will be reviewed thoroughly and, where needed, larger spaces secured to make certain that the necessary social distancing can be applied during presentations, interactive sessions, networking breaks, any one-to-one meetings and banqueting functions.
They have also sourced the necessary quantities of individual hygiene products for all attendees, including masks and hand sanitizers and comprehensive plans are pro-actively discussed with the organizers to ensure appropriate cleaning and sterilization strategies are employed, in a for the participants noticeable manner.
Temperature checks will be conducted for all attendees upon arrival
Masks and gloves will be provided for you to use as and when you feel necessary
Additional registration stations will be set up to minimize queuing
See-through partitions will protect attendees during any one-to-one meetings
Stage, lectern and microphones will be disinfected after each session
Number of attendees will be limited for both exclusivity and safety reasons
Sanitation stations will be provided throughout the venue(s)
High touch points and communal areas will be disinfected every 2 hours, throughout the day
The use of outdoor spaces at the hotel will be maximized for social functions
Plated meals will be served under social distancing guidelines
And although Taiwan’s borders are still restricted, domestic MICE is already roaring again, with safety of the attendees being the priority obviously!
The first major convention, the 60
th
annual convention & scientific session of the Taiwan Society of Cardiology will take place on July 25 -26 at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) in Taipei, where 1,500 participants are expected.
It’s President, Juey-Jen Hwang, M.D., Ph.D stated that all above policies are in place, thanks to the Taiwan Model enacted very early stage in protecting our country from COVID-19 and, consequently, keep the important convention as scheduled, more precisely saying, just delayed for two months.
In the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center upcoming events are also scheduled, like BioTaiwan, one of the largest annual biotech events in Asia and the Healthcare & Medical Cosmetology Expo, a history-making Cosmeceutical and Nutraceuticals event, which are both scheduled to come about before the end of July 2020.
One of organizers, President Johnsee Lee of the Taiwan Bio Industry Organization, commented on the fast come-back as follows: “This will be the first major biotechnology exhibition since the outbreak of COVID-19. We decided to go ahead as scheduled, considering there is a strong need for biotech companies to make deals and look for partners”
In other words, all Taipei’s MICE stakeholders are ready to serve domestic MICE to it is fullest extend and are, of course, looking forward to the lifting of restrictions for MICE participants to enter Taiwan and then capitalize on their country’s enhanced image on making sure their citizens, and thus their visitors are as safe as humanly possible.

The Web Conference 2020 was held in Taipei from April 20 to 24. Because epidemic-prevention restrictions made physical on-site meeting impossible, the conference was fully broadcast online. The Mayor Ko Wen-je delivered his opening speech over the Internet, and met together in the online world with top experts in the field of information technology and representatives from technology developers and governments from nations around the globe.
