Taipei City International Meeting Total Breaks 100
Ranking Rises to 5
th
in Asia
New reporting is out on Taipei’s convention and exhibition industry international rankings! According to the latest statistics from the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association), released yesterday evening (May 12), in 2019 the total number of international association meetings held in Taipei City reached 101, raising Taipei from 6
th
to 5
th
place among Asian international meeting cities, after Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Seoul. The city’s international ranking improved from 20
th
to 19
th
. These are new highs for recent years. Taipei City has achieved solid results in ICCA city rankings for two consecutive years, showcasing the achievements of the Department of Information and Tourism’s (DOIT) systematic efforts to promote the city’s convention and exhibition industry.
Taiwan’s Excellent Epidemic Prevention Performance – Taipei City Partners with MICE Enterprises to Prepare for Industry Recovery
According to DOIT Commissioner Liu Yi-Ting, as the COVID-19 pandemic has raged across the world, Taiwan has utilized advanced deployment and technology application, and its stellar prevention performance has been recognized by the international community. In addition to a bailout plan, the Taipei City Government is also developing and carrying out initiatives for MICE industry revitalization, such as: providing extra Execution Phase and Bidding Phase subsidies for MICE events, and planning new revitalization subsidies such as exclusive package incentive schemes for large-scale meetings/exhibitions, providing subsidies for small and medium-sized international meeting venues, providing subsidies for cultural performances and activities for high-end incentive-travel groups, etc. These will help the industry to overcome current difficulties and provide overall stabilization for the Taipei City MICE industry.
At the same time, the Taipei City Government has mobilized its resources, actively deploying overseas marketing and strongly building the city’s image for a healthy and safe MICE environment. This will attract the strong return of MICE activities once the epidemic situation is ameliorated, increasing the number of MICE visitors and the MICE peripheral economy.
